Kids Can Say the Darndest Things

I took all three boys to the Temple for the primary activity yesterday. I was very nervous about their behavior since it would be the first time we have ever visited. It was planned to sing for the Temple Matron and then tour the grounds. I discussed the night before the plans and how we should behave at the temple. Alex was great. He understood it was Heavenly Father's house...as opposed to the church which was Jesus' house (according to him). Brett was mad because he thought it would be boring. So we left for the temple and Brett had in hand the first book of Spiderwick Chronicles (this is his first "real" book and he is trying to read it before I can even start it). He was excellent outside, mostly just reading to himself while Alex walked around holding his primary teacher's hand. When it was time to go in to the temple lobby to sing Alex's teacher gave Brett a ripped piece of paper to use as his book mark. It was such a overwhelming spirit to listen to the kids sing I love to see the Temple. I did not expect to have such an emotional response so suddenly. At the end Brett raised his hand and I panicked. All he talked about that morning was stories of Metroid the video game and what was happening in his book. I was so afraid that he was going to the temple matron the latest battle from Metroid. To my relief and utter surprise he said, "This place is amazing. When I walked in here I almost fell back." I cried for the second time in those few minutes because I knew that Brett had been touched by the spirit and he recognized that this was a special and holy place.
Here are a couple of pictures from the temple grounds. I am so excited as the kids get older to explain more about the temple and what we do. I want them to remember this experience because as Brett said, This place is amazing and it was one of the best days ever in his book.

STAR WARS

I frantically was trying to finish the boys Jedi costumes and successfully did only an hour before we were supposed to meet Darth Vader, his storm trooper, and Princess Leah. The kids were totally excited waiting in line of course when Logan, our little Star Wars fanatic actually saw Darth Vader he started clinging to me and wouldn't go see him. He kept saying "I scared." The other two had a great time though.

Parenting Discipline non success

Apparently, there is a punishment worse than anything I can dish out as a parent onto Brett. It doesn't matter if I send him to his room, take a way a toy, or ground him from the Wii. Far worse than any of those punishments is what they dish out from school. Anybody want to know what is worse than what I can do....The WORST punishment that can happen to Brett is to get his binder signed. Thankfully, it only happened once and it was the first week of school. He threw wood chips on the playground and got his binder signed. When he came home he asked me what wood chips were and when I told him about the dirt at the playground, he said to me.. "Oh, we're not supposed to throw those."

Underwears and poop success

I have an announcement. Third child was my charm. I have a child that officially has no problem pooping in the potty. Logan is awesome! (Truthfully, he has been doing it for almost 3 months now but I wasn't going to hold my breath that it would last forever till now.) I love how he talks about not wearing diapers. He calls them his underwears and asks me all the time if I like his underwears and then tells me how daddy likes his diapers still.

First Day of School-The cool and the blue

Brett had a very exciting time starting 2nd grade. He has a brand new teacher who I was a little nervous about until I found out she was hand recruited by his 1st grade teacher Mr. Holly. She is very exciting and enthusiastic and he says everything is great.
Alex on the other hand felt that the day was extremely long and could not understand why now that he is in kindergarten he can't already read. I mean duh--aren't you supposed to be able to read in kindergarten. He was very upset when he realized his assumption was wrong. He did decide that he may be able to handle kindergarten if he is able to buy hot lunch. He thinks that is pretty cool and begged for the entire first week for me to go put money in his account once he memorized his school number. (Greg had his nasal septum fixed and his "tumor" taken out of his nose so we were a little slow doing the extra things that first week of school.)
Logan has been missing his brothers. When he wakes up in the morning he usually wanders around the house asking "Where my guys?"
